The Book of 1st Kings

This book presents the early history of the kingdom of Israel.

2:2 I go the way of all the earth: be you strong therefore, and show yourself a man;

2:3 keep the charge of the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and wherever you turn yourself:

2:4 That the Lord may continue his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If your children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you (he said) a man on the throne of Israel.

3:9 Give your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, so that I may discern between good and evil ...

4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceedingly much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

4:30 Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

4:31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his reputation was in all nations round about.

4:32 He spoke three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.

4:33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall: he spoke also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

4:34 There came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

10:1 When the queen of Sheba heard of the reputation of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him with hard questions.

13:2 He cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, altar, altar, thus said the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and on you shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense on you, and men's bones shall be burned on you.

19:10 He said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

19:11 He said, Go forth, and stand on the mount before the Lord. Behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tear the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:

19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.
