The Book of 1 Samuel

2:18 Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

3:1 The child Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. The word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

3:2 At that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

3:3 ... before the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

3:4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

3:5 He ran to Eli, and said, Here am I; for you called me. He said, I called not; lie down again. He went and lay down.

3:6 The Lord called yet again, Samuel. Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for you did call me. He answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

3:7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.

3:9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call you, that you shall say, Speak, Lord; for your servant hears. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

3:10 The Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for your servant hears.

9:17 When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him, Behold the man whom I spoke to you of. This same shall reign over my people.

13:9 Saul said, Bring here a burned offering to me, and peace offerings. He offered the burned offering.

13:14 Now your kingdom shall not continue: the Lord has sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be captain over his people, because you have not kept that which the Lord commanded you.

15:11 It repents me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. It grieved Samuel; and he cried to the Lord all night.

16:7 The Lord said to Samuel, Do not look at his countenance or on the height of his stature, because I have refused him. The Lord does not see things as people+ see things. For people+ look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

16:18 Then one of the servants said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man. A man of war, and prudent, a comely person, and the Lord is with him.

17:50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
