The Book of Deuteronomy

Following is a selection of some of the most memorable Key verses and passages in this book.

1:11 The Lord God of your fathers will make you a thousand times as many more as you are now and He will bless you just as He has promised.

4:2 You shall not add to the word that I command you. Neither shall you diminish anything from it, so that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

5:1 Moses called all Israel and said to them: Hear Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, so that you may learn them and keep them and do them.

5:2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

5:3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

5:4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5:5 I stood between you and the Lord at that time to show you the word of the Lord: for you were afraid of the fire, and did not go up into the mount. And I declared to you what God said:

5:6 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

5:7 You shall have no other gods before me. v 5:8 You shall not make any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

5:9 You shall not bow down yourself to them nor serve them. For I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

5:10 showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

5:11 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that took his name in vain.

5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord your God has commanded you.

5:13 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work:

5:14 the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates; that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as thou.

5:15 remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord your God brought you out there through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day.

5:16 Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you, in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

5:17 You shall not murder+.

5:18 Neither shall you commit adultery.

5:19 Neither shall you steal.

5:20 Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.

5:21 Neither shall you desire your neighbor's wife, neither shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is your neighbor's.

6:4-7 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 These words that I command you shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently ... and talk of them daily ...

6:8 You shall bind them for a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

6:16 You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted Him in Massah.

8:3 God humbled you and allowed+ you to be hungry and He fed you with manna, which you did not understand+ so neither did your fathers, so that He might make you know that mankind+ does not live by bread only, but by every word+ that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord does mankind+ live.

10:12 What does the Lord require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul ...

10:20 You shall fear the Lord your God. You shall serve Him and to Him shall you cleave and swear by His name.

17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

18:15 The Lord your God will raise up to you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like to me; to him you shall listen;

18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brothers, like to you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

18:19 It shall come to pass, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sins: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

21:23 His body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that your land do not be defiled, which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance.

24:1 When a man has taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

25:4 You shall not muzzle the ox when he treads out the corn.

25:5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without to a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother to her.

27:26 Cursed be he that confirms not all the words of this law to do them. All the people shall say, Amen.

30:12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, that we may hear it, and do it?

30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it, and do it?

30:14 the word is very close to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.

31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord your God, he it is that does go with you, he will not fail you, nor forsake you.

32:9 For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

32:35 To me belongs vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come on them make haste.

32:36 For the Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

32:43 Rejoice, you nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful to his land, and to his people.
