The Book of Isaiah

Following are some of the memorable verses.in this Book.

This book presents a prophetic narrative of the woes that befall a disobedient people and the redemption that occurs when they repent. Of particular importance are the many Messianic prophecies revealed in this book.

1:9 Except the Lord of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like to Gomorrah.

1:11 To what purpose is the crowd of your sacrifices to me? said the Lord: I am full of the burned offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, said the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

2:2 It shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

2:3 Many people shall go and say, Come you, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

3:11 Woe to the wicked. It shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

4:3 It shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone who is written among the living in Jerusalem:

5:2 He fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choice vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

6:9 He said, Go, and tell this people, Hear you, but understand not; and see you, but perceive not.

6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.

8:12 Do not say a confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, a confederacy. Do not fear nor be afraid.

8:14 He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwells in mount Zion.

9:1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: those who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, on them has the light shined.

9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

10:22 For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

11:1 There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

11:2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

11:3 Shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

11:4 With righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

11:5 Righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

11:7 The cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

11:8 The sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

11:10 In that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

13:10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

19:2 I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

21:9 Behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. He answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken to the ground.

22:13 Behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.

25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord has spoken it.

26:3 You Lord, will keep in perfect peace the mind stayed on you by trusting in you ...

26:20 Come, my people, enter you into your chambers, and shut your doors about you: hide yourself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation is over.

27:9 By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.

28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

28:16 Therefore thus said the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste.

28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

28:22 Now therefore do not be mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord God of hosts a consumption, even determined on the whole earth.

29:10 For the Lord has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers has he covered.

29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Because this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

29:14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

30:18 ... The Lord is a God of judgment. Blessed are all who wait for Him.

32:17 The work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness will be quietness and assurance forever.

33:17 Yours eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.

35:5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

37:31 The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

40:3 The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

40:7 The grass withers, the flower fades: because the spirit of the Lord blows on it: surely the people is grass.

40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of God will stand forever.

40:13 Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counselor has taught him?

40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

40:31 Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.

41:10 Do not be afraid for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit on him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

42:2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment to truth.

42:4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, until he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

43:10 You are my witnesses, said the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That to me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

49:6 He said, It is a light thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.

49:8 Thus said the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you: and I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

49:15-16 ... Others may forget you but will I not forget you. 16 I have engraved you upon the palms of my hands.

50:6 I gave my back to the strikers, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

50:10 Who is among you that fears the Lord, that obeys the voice of his servant, that walks in darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay on his God.

50:11 Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This shall you have of mine hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.

52:5 Now therefore, what have I here, said the Lord, that my people is taken away for nought? Those who rule over them make them to howl, said the Lord; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

52:7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him that brings good tidings, that publishes peace; that brings good tidings of good, that publishes salvation; that said to Zion, Your God reigns.

52:11 Depart you, depart you, go you out from there, touch no unclean thing; go you out of the midst of her; be you clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord.

52:15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

53:1 Who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

53:5 He was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.

53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.

53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

53:9 He made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he has poured out his soul to death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

54:1 Sing, barren, you that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you that did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, said the Lord.

54:13 All your children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of your children.

55:1 Ho, everyone who thirsts, come you to the waters, and he that has no money; come you, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

55:3 Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

55:11 So shall my Word be that goes forth out of my mouth. It will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please and it will prosper in those purposes to which I send it.

56:4 For thus said the Lord to the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;

56:5 Even to them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, everyone who keeps the sabbath from polluting it, and took hold of my covenant;

56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burned offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted on mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

58:7 Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you hide not yourself from your own flesh?

58:11 The Lord shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and make fat your bones: and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

59:7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.

59:8 The way of peace they do not know; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whoever goes therein shall not know peace.

59:20 The Redeemer shall come to Zion, and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob, said the Lord.

59:21 This is my covenant with them, says the Lord. My spirit is upon you and my words that I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth nor out of the mouths of your descendants+ nor out of the mouths of your descendents says the Lord, from henceforth and forever.

60:1 Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen on you.

60:13 The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious.

61:1 The spirit of the Lord God is on me; because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

61:3 I will give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness so that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, so that He might be glorified.

62:11 Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world, Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

63:9 In all their affliction He was afflicted and the angel of His presence saved them. In His love and in His pity He redeemed them and He bore them and carried them all the days of old.

64:4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, God, beside you, what he has prepared for him that waits for him.

65:1 I am sought of those who asked not for me; I am found of those who sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, to a nation that was not called by my name.

65:2 I have spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, which walks in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

66:1 Thus said the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that you build to me? And where is the place of my rest?

66:2 For all those things has mine hand made, and all those things have been, said the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.
