The Book of Proverbs presents practical wisdom that transcends all history and all cultures in a collection of moral maxims and brief discourses on wisdom, temperance, justice, and right-conduct.

1:5 The wise will hear and will increase learning; and those with understanding will attain wise counsel.

1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

2:22 The wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.

3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

3:11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

3:12 Those whom the Lord loves, He corrects. Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due when it is in the power of your hand to do it.

3:34 Surely He scorns the scorners, but He gives grace to the lowly.

4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men.

4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they do not know at what they stumble.

4:24 Put a corrupt+ mouth away from you and put perverse lips far from you.

6:16-19 Six things the Lord hates. Seven are an abomination to Him. 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart devising wicked imaginations, swift running to mischief, 19 a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among the family+.

6:25 Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.

8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me early will find me.

8:32-33 Listen+ ... for blessed are those who keep my ways. 33 Listen to instruction and be wise and do not refuse it.

10:19 In a multitude of words, sin is not absent+. But those who refrain their lips are wise.

10:26 As vinegar is to the teeth, and as smoke is to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

10:27-28 The fear of the Lord prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. 28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

11:13 A talebearer reveals secrets, but one who is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.

11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall. But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

11:17 The merciful do good to their own soul. But those who are cruel trouble their own flesh.

11:18 The wicked works a deceitful work: but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.

11:19 Righteousness is to life. Those who pursue evil pursue it to their own death.

11:21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

11:22 A pretty+ woman without discretion is like a jewel of gold in a pig's+ snout.

11:23 The desire of the righteous is good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.

11:28 Those who trust in riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish ...

11:29 Those who trouble their own house will inherit the wind. The fool will become a servant to the wise of heart.

11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. One who wins souls is wise.

11:31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

12:2 A good person obtains the favor of the Lord, but the Lord will condemn those of wicked devices.

12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but one who makes ashamed is like rottenness in the bones.

12:15 The way of fools is right in their own eyes, but one who heeds+ counsel is wise.

12:16 A fool's wrath is quickly+ known, but a prudent person covers shame.

12:18 There is that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

12:22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truly are His delight.

12:25 Heaviness in the heart makes one stoop, but a good word makes one glad.

13:3 He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

13:7 There are some who make themselves rich yet have nothing, and some who make themselves poor who have great riches.

13:10 Contention comes from pride, but from the well advised comes wisdom.

13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity will diminish, but one who gathers by labor will increase.

13:13 Whoever despises the Word will be destroyed, but one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

13:15 Good understanding gives favor: but the way of transgressors is hard.

13:18 Poverty and shame come to those who refuse instruction, but those who regard reproof will be honored.

14:9 Fools mock at sin. But among the righteous there is favor.

14:12: There is a way that seems right to people, but its end is death.

14:29 One who is slow to wrath is of great understanding, but one who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.

15:13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

15:21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walks uprightly.

15:22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed. But in the multitude of counselors purposes are established.

15:28 The heart of the righteous studies to answer: but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked. But He hears the prayers of the righteous.

15:31-33 The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise. 32 Those who refuse instruction despise their own soul. But those who hear and heed reproof gain+ understanding. 33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom and before honor is humility.

16:1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.

16:3 Commit your work to the Lord and your thoughts will be established.

16:5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord.

16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

16:7 When one's ways please the Lord, they make even their enemies to be at peace with them.

16:9 A person's heart devises their way, but the Lord directs their steps.

16:18 Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

16:19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

16:20 One who handles a matter wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord will be blessed+.

16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

16:27 An ungodly person+ digs up evil and in their lips are like a burning fire.

16:28 A contrary+ person+ sows strife and a whisperer separates chief friends.

16:32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty ...

17:9 Those who cover a transgression seek love, but those who repeat a matter separate friends.

17:14 The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

17:16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has. No heart to it?

17:17 A friend loves at all times ...

17:22 A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

17:27-28 Those who have knowledge spare their words. A man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. 28 Even a fool is considered wise when he remains silent.+ Those who keep their mouths closed are esteemed to have understanding.

18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and are safe.

18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

19:5 A false witness will not be unpunished. One who speaks lies will not escape.

19:20 Hear counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise in the latter end.

20:3 It is an honor to cease from strife, but every fool will continue meddling.

22:6 Train up children in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it.

23:7 For as one thinks in their heart, so are they. Eat and drink, one may say to you. But their heart is not with you.

23:9 Do not speak in the ears of fools, for they will despise the wisdom ...

24:3 Through wisdom is a house built and by understanding it is established.

24:10 If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

24:11 If you forbear to deliver those who are drawn to death and those who are ready to be slain.

25:21-22 If your enemy is hungry, give them bread to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. 22 For thereby you heap coals of fire upon their head, and the Lord will reward you.

25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a big+ house.

26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like them.

26:11 As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.

26:20 Where no wood is, the fire goes out, so where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.

27:1 Boast not yourself of tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

27:2 Let others praise you, and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.

27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

29:1 He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

29:18 Where there is no vision, people perish. But one who keeps the law is blessed+.

29:23 A person's pride will bring them low, but honor will uphold the humble in spirit.

30:5 Every Word of God is pure. He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

31:30 Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain. But a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.
