Jonah Chapter 3

Then the Word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time saying,
Arise and go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the proclamation that I first told you.
Then Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the Word of the Lord. Nineveh was a great city of three days' journey.
As Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, he cried out and said, In 40 days, Nineveh will be overthrown.
Then the people of Nineveh believed God and they proclaimed a fast and all put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.
For the Word came to the king of Nineveh, and he got up from his throne, took off his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
He then proclaimed to all Nineveh, By the decree of the king and his nobles+, Do not let man or beast, herd or flock eat anything. Do not let them eat or drink water.
But let man and animal be covered with sackcloth and cry out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from their evil ways and from the violence that is in their hands.
For who can tell if God may turn away from His fierce anger so that we do not perish?
Then God saw their work, that they turned from their evil ways, and God relented+ from the harm+ that He had said He would do to them, and He did not do it.
