This book presents a prophetic narrative by the prophet
Jeremiah who lived from the time of Josiah until the captivity.
1:4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
1:5 Before I formed you in the belly I knew you, and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
1:6 Then said I, Ah, Lord God. Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
1:7 The Lord said to me, Say not, I am a child: for you shall go to all that I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
1:8 Do not be afraid of their faces: for I am with you to deliver you, said the Lord.
1:9 Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. The Lord said to me, Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
1:10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
3:1 If a man shall put away his wife ... and she becomes another man's, shall he ever return to her again? Is that land not greatly polluted?
5:21 Hear now this, foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
6:16 Thus said the Lord, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls. They said, We will not walk therein.
6:30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the Lord has rejected them.
7:11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, said the Lord.
8:11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
15:16 I found your words and consumed+ them and your Word became+ the joy and rejoicing of my heart. For now I am called by your name, O Lord God of hosts.
17:10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
22:5 If you will not hear these words, I swear by myself, said the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.
23:5 Behold, the days come, said the Lord, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
29:8 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let prophets and diviners among you deceive you. And do not listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.
29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
29:13 You shall seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.
31:3 The Lord has appeared to me saying, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore, with lovingkindness have I drawn you.
31:15 Thus said the Lord; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.
31:25 I have satiated the weary soul and replenished every sorrowful soul.
31:31 Behold, the days come, said the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was an husband to them, said the Lord:
31:33 this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, said the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
31:34 They shall teach no more everyone his neighbor, and everyone his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, said the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
32:7 Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.
32:17 Ah Lord God. Behold, you have made the heaven and the earth by your great power and your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you.
