This book presents an historical account of Israel's conquest of Canaan
under the leadership of Joshua, and the division of the land among the
twelve tribes.
1:1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,
1:2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you, and all this people, to the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
1:3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread on, that have I given to you, as I said to Moses.
1:4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
1:5 There shall not anyone be able to stand before you all the days of your life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with you: I will not fail you, nor forsake you.
1:6 Be strong and of a good courage: for to this people shall you divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.
1:7 Only be you strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate in the Word day and night, so that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then you shall make your way prosperous and then you shall have good success.
1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; do not be afraid nor dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
22:5 ... love the Lord your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and cleave to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
23:1 A long time after the Lord had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, Joshua became+ old and weakened+ in age.
24:15 ... as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
24:19 Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God and He will not forgive your transgressions and your sins.
