This book presents biblical wisdom concerning right conduct, values, moral behavior, and the true meaning of life. Wisdom is personified, as God speaks to us about the practical duties of mankind.
To achieve success in life, it is crucial to seek wisdom, understanding, knowledge, prudence, discretion, and to have respect for God, all of which can be found in this book.
Chapter 1 Wisdom is revealed in by contrast with folly.
Chapter 2 Wisdom reveals God and righteousness is shown to save one from wickedness.
Chapter 3 Presents a description of life in pursuit of wisdom.
Chapter 4 Wisdom is shown to be the best course of life.
Chapter 5 Warnings to avoid the strange woman.
Chapter 6 Warnings against various evils.
Chapter 7 Warnings against the seductions of an adulterous woman.
Chapter 8 Wisdom makes an appeal.
Chapter 9 Wisdom gives her invitations. Fear of and respect for God is the beginning of wisdom.
Chapters 10-22 Presents 375 practical proverbs, wise saying in 2 parts:
The wise man contrasted to the fool and the righteous contrasted to the wicked.
Wise and foolish speech are contrasted.
Chapters 22-24 Words of the wise and commendations of justice.
Chapters 25-29 Present the proverbs of Solomon that King Hezekiah of Judah had his
scribes copy to show the contrast between the just and the wicked.
Chapters 30 Presents the sayings of Agur that touch on creation, divine power, and human ignorance.
Chapter 31 Presents the Words of King Lemuel of Massa that his mother taught him about the duty of kings with praise for the wise and virtuous woman.
All wisdom can be summed up in this: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge God, and He will direct your path. -Proverbs 3:5-6
