Why the Song of Solomon is important:

This love poem celebrates the beauty of a romantic courtship, the longing for love and affection, and the sanctity of a marriage union that takes place in a faithful marriage relationship as God intended, designed, blessed, ordained, and consecrated it to be between a man and a woman.

It is a call to a purity of life.

Chapters 1-2 Solomon describes the courtship and engagement of himself and a Shulammite girl: My beloved responded and said to me, Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come along.

Chapters 3-4 Solomon describes his attraction to his bride before they consummate their marriage. Go forth, O daughters of Zion and gaze upon King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding.

Chapters 5-8 describe the relationship between husband and wife and the power of their love. Many waters cannot quench love nor will rivers overflow it. The bride struggles with the fear of separation, but the groom reassures his bride of his affections for her and reinforces the theme of the goodness of marriage.
