First Chronicles Chapter 18 1 After this, David struck the Philistines and humbled them. And he took Gath and its towns from the Philistines.2 He struck Moab. The people of Moab became David's servants and brought gifts.3 David struck King Hadarezer of Zobah near Hamath as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.4 David took from him a thousand chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 soldiers+. David also hamstrung all the chariot horses, but kept from them 100 chariots.5 When the Syrians of Damascus came to help King Hadarezer of Zobah, David killed 22,000 of the Syrians.6 Then David put troops in Damascus, Syria and the Syrians became David's servants and brought him gifts. The Lord preserved David wherever he went.7 David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer and brought them to Jerusalem.8 David brought much bronze from Tibhath and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, with which Solomon made the bronze sea and pillars and vessels of bronze.9 King Tou of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of King Hadarezer of Zobah,10 he sent Hadoram his son to King David to ask of his welfare, and to praise him because he had fought against Hadarezer and had beaten him. For Hadarezer had war with Tou. And he sent all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and bronze.11 King David dedicated them to the Lord, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all the nations, from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.12 Abishai the son of Zeruiah killed 18,000 of the men of Edom in the valley of salt.13 He put guards in Edom and all the men of Edom became David's servants. The Lord kept David safe wherever he went.14 David reigned over all Israel and did judgment and justice among all his people.15 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army. Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder.16 Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests, and Shavsha was scribe.17 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites. The sons of David were first ones at the hand of the king.
