1 Timothy Chapter 1 1 From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ who is our hope.2 To Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.3 I urged+ you to remain+ at Ephesus when I went to Macedonia so that you might charge them to teach no other doctrine4 and to not give heed to fables and endless genealogies that bring+ questions rather than godly edifying in faith.5 Now the objective+ of this instruction+ is true love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere+ faith.6 Yet some have erred+ by turning aside to vain talking+.7 They desire to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or what they affirm.8 Now we know that the law is good if it is used lawfully,9 Know this: That the law is not made for the righteous, but for the lawless and disobedient, ungodly sinners, unholy and worldly+, murderers of fathers and mothers and all murderers+,10 for fornicators+, for those who defile themselves, for slave traders+, liars, perjurers, and any other thing that is contrary to sound teaching+.11 This is according to the glorious Gospel of the blessed God that was committed to my trust.12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me because He counted me faithful to put me into the ministry.13 Because before, I was a blasphemer, a persecutor, and injurious to others. But I received+ mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.14 The grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance: That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.16 However for this purpose+ I received+ mercy, so that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering as a pattern to those who would hereafter believe in Him for eternal+ life.17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the earlier+ prophecies about you, so that by them you might fight+ a good warfare,19 holding faith and a good conscience. For some have put away their conscience so as to make their faith shipwreck.20 Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander whom I have delivered to Satan so that they may learn to not blaspheme.
