2 Timothy Chapter 1

1 From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus.
2 To Timothy, my beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I am thankful to God, whom I serve from my forefathers example with a pure conscience, as I remember you in my prayers night and day without ceasing.
4 I greatly desire to see you so that I may be filled with joy. I remember+ your tears
5 and I remember the sincere+ faith that is in you that lived+ first in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice. And I am persuaded that it is in you also.
6 Therefore I remind+ you to stir up the gift of God that is in you by the laying+ on of my hands.
7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.
8 Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord nor of me His prisoner. But endure+ the hardships+ that come with the Gospel according to the power of God.
9 He saves+ us and calls+ us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace that was given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
10 But now, it is revealed+ by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.
11 To this purpose I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles.
12 It is for this reason+ that I also suffer these things. Nevertheless, I am not ashamed. For I know whom I have believed and I am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him against that day.
13 Hold fast the example+ of sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
14 Keep safe that good deposit+ that was entrusted+ to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
15 You know this, that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16 May the Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
17 When he was in Rome, he diligently sought and found me.
18 May the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord in that day, for you know how well he served+ me at Ephesus.
