Acts Chapter 2 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.2 Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared to them divided+ tongues like fire, both+ of which sat down upon each of them,4 and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.5 Now at that time there were Jews living+ in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.6 And when this was reported+, the multitude came together and were confounded, because everyone+ heard them speaking in their own language.7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another: Behold, are these who speak not all Galileans?8 How is it that we hear everyone+ in our own tongue in which we were born?9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and those who live in Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, also strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,11 Cretans, and Arabians. We all hear them speaking in our tongues about the wonderful works of God.12 They were all amazed and perplexed+ and said to one another: What does this mean?13 Others, mocking, said: These men are full of new wine.14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised+ his voice and said to them: You men of Judea and all of you who dwell in Jerusalem: Let this be known to you and listen carefully+ to my words:15 These people are not drunk as you suppose, since it is only about nine o'clock+ in the morning.16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:17 God has declared+: It will come to pass in the last days that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. And your old men will dream dreams. Joel 2:2818 In those days, I will pour out of my Spirit on my servants and on my handmaidens and they will prophesy. Joel 2:2919 I will show wonders in Heaven above and signs on the Earth below+, with blood and fire and vapor of smoke. Joel 2:3020 The Sun will be turned into darkness and the Moon to the color of blood before that great and notable day of the Lord comes. Joel 2:3121 And it will come to pass that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Joel 2:3222 Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth was a man proved+ by God among you, by miracles~ and wonders and signs~ that God did through Him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also know.23 Jesus was delivered by the predetermined+ purpose+ and foreknowledge of God and you have taken Him by wicked hands and crucified and slain Him.24 But God raised Him up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He could be held+ by it.25 For David spoke concerning Him: I foresaw the Lord continuously+ before me. For He is at my right hand so that I would not be shaken+. Psalm 16:826 Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue was glad. Moreover, my flesh will rest in hope. Psalm 16:927 Because, you will not leave my soul in Hades. Nor will you allow+ your Holy One to see corruption. Psalm 16:1028 You have made the ways of life known to me. You will make me full of joy with your countenance. Psalm 16:1129 Men and family+, let me speak freely to you about the patriarch David. He is dead and buried, and his tomb+ is with us to this day.30 Therefore, being a prophet, he knew that God had sworn to him with an oath that, from the fruit of his loins according to the flesh, He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne.31 David foresaw+ this and spoke about the resurrection of Christ: That His soul was not left in Hell nor did His flesh see corruption. Psalm 16:1032 God has raised up this Jesus, and we all are witnesses of this fact.33 Therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has poured+ out this that you now see and hear.34 For David is not ascended into the heavens. But he himself said: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand Psalm 110:135 until I make your enemies+ your footstool. Psalm 110:136 Therefore, let all of the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced+ in their hearts and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles: Men and family+, what shall we do?38 Then Peter said to them: Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 For the promise is to you and to your children and to all who are far away+, to all+ whom the Lord our God calls.40 With many other words Peter testified and exhorted saying: Be saved from this corrupt+ generation.41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. The same day there were added, about three thousand souls.42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship and in breaking bread and in prayers.43 Fear came upon every soul and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.44 All who believed were together and had everything+ common.45 They sold their possessions and goods and divided+ them to all as everyone+ had need.46 And they continued daily in one accord, in the temple and breaking bread from house to house. They ate their food+ with gladness and singleness of heart,47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the assembly+ daily those who were being saved.
