Deuteronomy Chapter 28 1 If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe and to do all His commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth.2 All these blessings will come on you and overtake you if you will listen to the voice of the Lord your God.3 You will be blessed in the city and in the field.4 The fruit of your body will be blessed and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep.5 Your basket and your store will be blessed.6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.7 The Lord will cause your enemies that rise up against you to be stricken before your face. They will come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.8 The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and all that you set your hand to. He will bless you in the land that the Lord your God gives you.9 The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.10 All the people of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord and they will be afraid of you.11 The Lord will prosper you in goods, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give to you.12 The Lord will open His good treasure to you, the Heaven to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will loan to many nations but you will not borrow.13 The Lord will make you the head and not the tail. You will be always above and not beneath if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, to observe and do them.14 You will not go aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.15 But if you will not listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe and to do all His commandments and His statutes that I command you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you.16 You will be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field.17 Your basket and your store will be cursed.18 The fruit of your body will be cursed, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep.19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.20 The Lord will send on you cursing, vexation, and rebuke in all that you set your hand to do until you are destroyed and perish quickly because of the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken me.21 The Lord will make the plague cling to you until He has consumed you from off the land where you go to possess it.22 The Lord will strike you with lung disease and with a fever and with an inflammation and with extreme burning and with the sword and with blasting and with mildew. They will pursue you until you perish.23 Your heavens over your head will be bronze and the earth that is under you iron.24 The Lord will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down from the heavens on you until you are destroyed.25 The Lord will cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them. You will tremble before all the kingdoms of the earth.26 Your body will be food to all birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth. No man will frighten them away.27 The Lord will strike you with the boils of Egypt and with hemorrhoids and with the scab and with the itch from which you cannot be healed.28 The Lord will strike you with madness and blindness and astonishment of heart.29 You will grope at noonday like the blind grope in darkness. You will not prosper in your ways. You will always be pressed down and spoiled forever and no one will save you.30 You will become engaged to a wife and another man will lie with her. You will build a house and you will not live in it. You will plant a vineyard and you will not gather the grapes from it.31 Your ox will be slain before your eyes, and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have no way to rescue them.32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another people and your eyes will look for them and fail all day long. There will be no power in your hand.33 The fruit of your land and all your labors will be eaten up by a nation that you do not know. You will always be oppressed and crushed.34 You will be mad because of what you will see with the sight of your eyes.35 The Lord will strike you in the knees and in the legs with an evil ulcer that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.36 The Lord will bring you and your king that you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods of wood and stone.37 You will become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all nations where the Lord will lead you.38 You will carry much seed out into the field and gather little in, for the locust will eat it.39 You will plant vineyards and dress them but will neither drink the wine nor gather, for the worm will eat them.40 You will have olive trees throughout all your coasts but you will not anoint with the oil, for your olives will drop off.41 You will father sons and daughters but you will not enjoy them for they will go into captivity.42 Locust will possess all your trees and the fruit of your land.43 The strangers among you will get up high above you and you will come down very low.44 They will loan to you and you will not loan to them. They will be the head and you will be the tail.45 All these curses will come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed. Because you did not listen to the voice of the Lord your God to keep His commandments and His statutes that He commanded you.46 They will be on you for a sign and for a wonder and on your descendants forever.47 Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfullness and with gladness of heart for the abundance of everything.48 Therefore, you will serve your enemies that the Lord will send against you. In hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in the lack of everything. They will put a yoke of iron on your neck until they have destroyed you.49 The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue you will not understand.50 A nation fierce of face that will not regard the old or show favor to the young.51 He will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your land until you are destroyed. He will not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or flocks of your sheep until he has destroyed you.52 He will besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout all the land. He will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land that the Lord your God has given you.53 You will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters whom the Lord your God has given you. In siege and anguish your enemies will distress you.54 Those who were tender and delicate among you before will become evil toward their brothers and toward the wives of their bosom and toward any sons they have left.55 They will not give to any of them of the flesh of their sons whom they will eat. Because they will have nothing left in the siege and anguish that your enemies will bring you in all your gates.56 The tender and delicate women among you, who would not have ventured to set the sole of their feet on the ground before out of delicateness and tenderness, their eyes will be evil toward the husbands of their bosoms and toward their sons and daughters.57 Even toward their young one who come out from between their feet and toward their sons whom they shall bear. For they will eat them secretly for lack of food in the siege and anguish that your enemies will bring to you in your gates.58 All this if you will not observe to do all the words of this law that is written in this book so that you fear the glorious and fearful name of the Lord your God.59 Then the Lord will make your plagues remarkable, and the plagues of your descendants great and persistent plagues with evil and long lasting sicknesses.60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid. They will cling to you.61 Every sickness and every plague that is not written in the book of this law, the Lord will bring on you until you are destroyed.62 You will be left few in number, whereas before you were like the stars of the heavens for multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God.63 As the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you and to bring you to nothing. You will be plucked from off the land where you go to possess it.64 The Lord will scatter you among all people, from the one end of the earth even to the other. You will serve other gods there that neither you nor your fathers have known, wood and stone.65 Among these nations you will find no ease. Neither will the sole of your foot have rest. But the Lord will give you a trembling heart there and failing eyes and sorrow of mind.66 Your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear day and night and will have no assurance of your life.67 In the morning you will say, Oh that it were evening. In the evening you will say, Oh that it were morning. All for the fear in your heart that you fear and for the sight of your eyes that you see.68 The Lord will bring you into Egypt again with ships in which I said to you, You will never see it again. There you will be sold to your enemies as men slaves and women slaves and no one will buy you.
