John Chapter 12

Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, the one who had been dead but whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
They made a supper for Jesus there, and Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.
Then Mary took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the aroma+ of the ointment.
Then one of Jesus' disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, the one who would betray Jesus said:
Why was this ointment not sold for a year's wages+ and given to the poor?
He said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had carried the money bag and he often took+ what was put in it.
Then Jesus said: Let her alone. It was for+ the day of my burial+ that she had kept this.
For you always have the poor with you. But you will not always have me.
Many of the Jews knew that He was there, but they did not come only for Jesus' sake, but so that they might see Lazarus also, whom He had raised from the dead.
But the chief priests consulted so that they might put Lazarus to death also,
for it was because of Lazarus that many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
On the next day, many people who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
took branches of palm trees and went forth to meet Him, and cried out: Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.
When He had found a young donkey+, Jesus sat on it. As it is written:
Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion+. Behold your King comes sitting on a donkey+'s colt. Zechariah 9:9
Jesus' disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him and that they had done these things to Him.
Therefore, the people who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his grave and raised him from the dead testified+ and spread the Word.
For this reason+ the people came to meet Him, because+ they heard that He had done this miracle~.
Therefore, the Pharisees said among themselves: Do you see+ that+ we are gaining+ nothing? Behold the world has gone after Him.
Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked+ him saying: Sir, we would like to see Jesus.
Philip came and told Andrew and Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
Jesus answered them saying: The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified.
Truly+, truly, I say to you: Unless+ a grain+ of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains+ alone. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.
Those who love their life will lose it, but those who hate their life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
If anyone will serve me, let them follow me, and where I am, my servant will be there also. If anyone will serve me, my Father will honor them.
Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this reason+ that I came to this hour.
Father, glorify~ your name. Then there came a voice from heaven saying: I have glorified it and will glorify it again.
Therefore the people who stood by and heard this said that it thundered. Others said: An angel spoke to Him.
Jesus answered and said: This voice did not come because of me, but for your benefit.
Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
When I am lifted up from the Earth and exalted, I will draw all people to me.
He said this signifying~ by what death He would soon die.
The people answered Him: We have heard out of the law that Christ will remain+ forever. How is it that you say: The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?
Then Jesus said to them: Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk in the light while you have the light, lest darkness come upon you. For those who walk in darkness do not know where they are going. Proverbs 4:19
While you have light, believe in the light so that you may be the children of light. Jesus spoke these things and then departed and hid Himself from them.
But though He had done so many miracles~ before them, they still did not believe in Him.
This fulfilled the words of the prophet Isaiah who said: Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
For this reason+ they could not believe. Because Isaiah said again:
He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart so that they would not see with their eyes or understand with their heart and be converted and I would heal them. Isaiah 6:9,10
Isaiah said these things when he saw Jesus glory and spoke of Him.
Nevertheless, many among the chief rulers also believed in Jesus, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue.
For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Then Jesus cried out and said: Those who believe in me do not believe in me, but in Him who sent me.
Those who see me see Him who sent me.
I have come as a light into the world so that whoever believes in me will+ not remain+ in darkness.
If anyone hears my words, and does not believe, I do not judge them. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
Those who reject me and do not receive my words, have one who judges them. The Word that I have spoken, that+ will judge them in the last day.
For I have not spoken from+ myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment: What I should say and what I should speak.
I know that His commandment is eternal+ life. Therefore, whatever I speak, even as the Father said to me, so I speak.
