Luke Chapter 6 1 Now+ it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that Jesus walked+ through the corn fields, and His disciples plucked the ears of corn and ate, rubbing them in their hands.2 Certain of the Pharisees said to them: Why do you do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?3 Jesus answering them said: Have you not even read what David did when he himself and those who were with him were hungry?4 How he went into the house of God and took and ate the show bread, which it is not lawful for anyone+ except+ the priests alone to eat? And he also gave some to those who were with him.5 Then Jesus said to them: The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.6 Now+ it came to pass on another Sabbath that Jesus entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man whose right hand was withered.7 The scribes and Pharisees watched Jesus to see whether He would heal on the Sabbath day so that they might find an accusation against Him.8 But He knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand: Rise up and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.9 Then Jesus said to them: I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good or to do evil? To save life or to destroy it?10 Looking around+ upon them all, He said to the man: Stretch forth your hand. And he did so and his hand was restored whole as the other.11 The scribes and Pharisees were filled with rage+ and conferred+ with one another to decide what they might do to Jesus.12 Then it came to pass in those days that Jesus went to a mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God.13 When it was day, He called His disciples, and from+ among them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon called Zelotes,16 Jude the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who also became+ the traitor.17 Jesus came down with them and stood in the plain with a multitude+ of His disciples and also a great multitude of people out of all Judea and Jerusalem and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases,18 including those who were oppressed+ with unclean spirits, and they were healed.19 The whole multitude sought to touch Him, for virtue went out of Him and healed them all.20 He lifted up His eyes to His disciples and said: Blessed are you who are poor for the kingdom of God is yours.21 Blessed are you who hunger now for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now for you shall laugh.22 Blessed are you when people+ shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and reproach you and cast out your name as evil, because+ of the Son of man.23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward will be great in heaven, for in like manner did their fathers treat the prophets.24 But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.25 Woe to you who are full, for you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.26 Woe to you, when everyone+ speaks well of you, for so did their fathers speak to the false prophets.27 But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Matthew 5:4428 Bless those who curse you. And pray for those who use you despitefully.29 To one who strikes+ you on the cheek offer also the other, and if anyone takes away your vest+ do not forbid them to take your coat also.30 Give to everyone+ who asks of you. Of anyone who takes away your goods, do not ask to take them back.31 As you would have others+ do to you, you also do to them likewise.32 For if you love those who love you, what grace+ have you shown? For sinners also love those who love them.33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what grace+ have you shown? For sinners also do the same.34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what grace+ have you shown? For sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again.35 Instead, I say to you: Love your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward will be great and you shall be the children of the Highest. For He is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.36 Therefore, be merciful as your Father also is merciful.37 Do not judge and you will not be judged. Do not condemn and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven.38 Give and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, others+ will give to your innermost+ needs. For with the same gauge+ with which you measure+ it will be measured to you again.39 Then Jesus spoke a parable to them: Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?40 The disciple is not above his master, but everyone who is perfect~ will be like+ their master.41 Why do you notice+ the speck+ that is in your brother's or sister's eye, but do not notice+ the beam~ that is in your own eye?42 How can you say to your brother: Brother, let me pull out the speck+ that is in your eye, when you yourself do not notice+ the beam~ that is in your own eye? You hypocrite. First cast the beam~ out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to pull out the speck+ that is in your brother's eye.43 For a good tree does not bring forth corrupt fruit. Nor does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. People+ do not gather figs from thorn bushes. Nor do they gather grapes from a thorn+ bush.45 A good person brings forth what is good out of the good treasure in their heart. An evil person brings forth what is evil out of the evil treasure that is in their heart. For the mouth speaks out of the abundance of the heart.46 Why do you call me: Lord, Lord, and do not do the things that I say?47 Whoever comes to me and hears my sayings and does them: I will show you to whom they are to be compared+:48 They are like a person who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation on a rock. When the flood arose, the stream beat forcefully+ upon that house, and could not shake it for it was founded upon a rock.49 But those who hear and do not follow through are like a person+ who built a house upon the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat forcefully+ and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.
