Luke Chapter 12 1 Meanwhile+, as a large+ crowd+ gathered so close together that they stepped+ on one another, Jesus began to say to His disciples: First, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.2 For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hid that will not become+ known. Matthew 10:263 Therefore, whatever you have spoken in darkness will be heard in the light and what you have spoken in the ear in closets will be proclaimed from+ the housetops.4 I say to you my friends: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.5 But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has authority+ and power to cast into Hell. Yes, I say to you: Fear Him.6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies+, and not one of them is forgotten before God?7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore, do not be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.8 I also say to you: Whoever will confess me before people+, the Son of man will also confess them before the angels of God.9 But those who deny me before people+ will be denied before the angels of God.10 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of man may be forgiven. But anyone who blasphemes~ against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.11 When they bring you to the synagogues and highest officials+ and powers, take no thought how or what you shall answer or what you shall say.12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you ought to say.13 Someone+ in the crowd+ said to Him: Master, tell+ my brother to divide the inheritance with me.14 Jesus said to him: Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?15 And He said to them: Take heed and beware of covetousness. For one's life is not to be found in the abundance of things one possesses.16 Then He spoke a parable to them saying: The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully.17 He thought within himself saying: What shall I do, because I have no room to store+ all my fruits?18 Then he said: This is what I will do: I will pull down my barns and build larger+ ones, and there I will store+ all my fruits and my possessions+. Proverbs 27:119 I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many goods stored+ up for many years. Now take your ease: Eat, drink, and be merry.20 But God said to him: You fool. This night your soul will be required of you. Then whose shall those things be that you have prepared+ for yourself?21 So it is with those who lay up treasure for themselves and are not rich toward God.22 He said to His disciples: Therefore I say to you: Take no thought for your life and what you shall eat, nor what clothes to put on your body.23 Life is more than food+ and the body more than clothes+.24 Consider the ravens. They neither sow nor reap nor have storehouses or barns, and God feeds them. Yet how much more value+ you are than the birds+.25 Who among you, by taking thought, can add one cubit~ to their stature?26 Therefore, if you are not able to do even the smallest+ thing, why give thought to the rest?27 Consider how the lilies grow. They do not toil. They do not spin. Yet I say to you that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.28 Therefore, if God so clothes the grass, which is in the field today and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?29 Do not seek what you shall eat or what you shall drink, and do not be of a doubtful mind.30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you have need of these things.31 But rather, you just seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.32 Do not be afraid, little flock. For it is your Father's good pleasure to give the kingdom of God to you.33 Sell what you have~ and give alms~. Make+ provision bags for yourselves that will not grow+ old, a treasure in the heavens that will not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth corrupts.34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:2135 Let your waist+ be belted+ up and your lights burning.36 Be like people waiting+ for their lord~, so that whenever he returns from the wedding, when he comes and knocks, you may open to him immediately.37 Blessed are those servants whom the lord~, when he comes, finds watching. Truly+ I say to you that he will prepare+ himself and seat+ them to be served and he will come forth and serve them.38 Blessed are those servants if he comes in the second watch or in the third watch and finds them watching.39 And know this: If the head+ of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed+ his house to be broken through.40 Therefore, you also must be ready. For the Son of man will come at an hour when you do not expect+ Him.41 Then Peter said to Him: Lord, are you speaking this parable to us, or to everyone+?42 The Lord said: Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom the lord~ will set over his household to give them their portion+ in due season?43 Blessed is that servant whom the lord~ shall find working+ when he comes.44 Truly I say to you, that he will set such a servant over all that he has.45 But if that servant says within their heart: My lord~ delays his coming, and begins to beat the servants and maids and to eat and drink and to be drunk,46 then the lord~ of that servant will come in a day when not expected+ and in an unknown+ hour, and will cut him in two+ and will appoint that servant's portion to be with the unbelievers.47 That servant who knew the lord's will and did not prepare nor do according to his will shall be beaten with many stripes.48 But those who do not know his will and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whomever much is given, much will be required from them; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of them.49 I have come to send fire on the Earth and what I desire+ is if it already be started+.50 But I have a baptism with which to be baptized and how constrained+ I am until it be accomplished.51 Did you think+ that I came to give peace on Earth? I tell you: No, but rather division.52 For from henceforth, there will be five in one house divided three against two and two against three.53 The father will be divided against the son and the son against the father. The mother against the daughter and the daughter against the mother. The mother in law against her daughter in law and the daughter in law against her mother in law.54 Then He said to the people: When you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately+ you say: A rain shower is coming, and so it is.55 When you see the south wind blow you say: There will be heat, and it comes to pass.56 You hypocrites. You can discern the face of the sky and of the Earth, but how is it that you do not discern this time?57 Yes, and why even of yourselves do you not judge what is right?58 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are on the way, diligently do everything you can so that you may be freed+ from him, lest he drag+ you to the judge and the judge deliver you to the officer and the officer cast you into prison.59 I tell you: You will not depart from there+ until you have paid the very last penny+.
