Luke Chapter 23 1 Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Jesus to Pilate.2 And they began to accuse Him saying: We found this fellow corrupting+ the nation and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ a King.3 Pilate asked Him saying: Are you the King of the Jews? Jesus answered Pilate and said: You say it.4 Then Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people: I find no fault in this man.5 But they were more fiercely insistent+, saying: He stirred up the people, teaching throughout all Judea+, beginning from Galilee to this place.6 When Pilate heard the name Galilee, he asked if the man was a Galilaean.7 As soon as he knew that Jesus belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was in Jerusalem at that time.8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had desired to see Him for a long time because he had heard many things about Him and he hoped to see some miracle~ done by Him.9 Then Herod questioned with Him in many words, but Jesus answered nothing.10 The chief priests and scribes then stood and forcefully+ accused Jesus.11 Then Herod, with his soldiers+, belittled+ Jesus and mocked Him and dressed+ Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back+ to Pilate.12 That same day, Pilate and Herod were made friends together, for before that they had been at enmity between themselves.13 Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,14 said to them: You have brought this man to me as one who corrupts+ the people. But behold, I have examined Him before you and I have found no fault in this man touching those things of which you accuse Him.15 No, nor yet Herod. For I sent you to him and behold, Herod and I agree that nothing worthy of death is done by Him.16 Therefore, I will chastise Him and release Him.17 For tradition had made it necessary that Pilate must release one prisoner to them at the feast.18 Then they all cried out at once saying: Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas.19 It was for a certain sedition made in the city and for murder that Barabbas had been cast into prison.20 Therefore Pilate, being willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them.21 But the people cried out saying: Crucify Him. Crucify Him.22 Pilate said to them the third time: Why? What evil has He done? I have found no cause of death in Him. Therefore, I will chastise Him and let Him go.23 But they were insistent+ with loud voices, requiring that Jesus be crucified, and their voices, and those of the chief priests prevailed.24 So Pilate gave the sentence that it should be as they required,25 and he released to them Barabbas who, for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired. But he delivered Jesus according to their will.26 As they led Him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian coming out of the country, and they laid the cross on him so that he might carry+ it for Jesus.27 A great multitude+ of people followed Jesus, including many women who cried+ and grieved+ for Him.28 But Jesus turning to them said: Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me but weep for yourselves and for your children.29 For behold the days are coming in which they will say: Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never gave birth+ and the breasts+ that never nursed+.30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains: Fall on us. And to the hills: Cover us.31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what will be done in the dry?32 Now there were also two others, criminals+, led away with Jesus to be put to death.33 When they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him and the criminals+, one on the right side+ and the other on the left. John 19:1834 Then Jesus said: Father, forgive them. For they do not know what they are doing. The soldiers divided+ up His clothing+ and cast lots for it. Psalm 109:4 Matthew 27:3535 And the people stood beholding, and the rulers also with them ridiculed+ Him saying: He saved others. Let Him save Himself, if He is Christ, the chosen of God. Matthew 27:4136 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him and offering Him vinegar,37 saying: If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.38 A title+ was also written over Him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew reading: This is the king of the Jews.39 One of the criminals+ who was hung there beside Jesus railed at Him saying: If you are Christ, save yourself and us.40 But the other answering rebuked him saying: Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?41 We indeed justly deserve this, for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man has done nothing amiss.42 And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.43 Jesus said to him: Truly+ I say to you: Today you will be with me in paradise.44 When it was about twelve o'clock+ noon, there was a darkness over all the Earth until three in the afternoon.45 The Sun was darkened and the veil of the temple was torn+ down the middle+.46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. And having said that, He expired+.47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God saying: Certainly this was a righteous man.48 And all the people who came together to that sight, beholding the things that were done, beat+ on their breasts, and returned.49 All those who knew+ Jesus, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance+ away, beholding these things.50 And behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counselor and a good and righteous+ man,51 one who had not consented to the counsel and deed of the rest of them. Joseph was from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews and he himself also was waiting for the kingdom of God.52 This Joseph went to Pilate and asked+ for Jesus' body.53 He took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb+ that was cut+ in stone, one in which no one before had ever been laid.54 That day was the preparation and the Sabbath drew on.55 The women also who came with Him from Galilee, followed after and saw+ the tomb+ and how His body was laid in it.56 Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
