Mark Chapter 1

The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
As it is written in the prophets: Behold I send my messenger before your face who will prepare your way before you. Matthew 11:10
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord. Make His paths straight. Matthew 3:3
John baptized in the wilderness and proclaimed+ the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
All those in the land of Judea and those of Jerusalem went to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan river confessing their sins.
John was clothed with camel's hair with a leather+ belt+ around+ his waist+ and he ate locusts and wild honey.
And he proclaimed+: One is coming after me who is mightier than I, the straps+ of whose sandals+ I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.
I indeed have baptized you with water but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
Now+ it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan river.
Immediately+ after coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending like a dove upon Himself.
And there came a voice from heaven saying: You are my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.
Then immediately after that the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.
He was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. And He was with the wild beasts. And the angels ministered to Him.
Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming+ the Gospel of the kingdom of God
and saying: The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is very near+. Repent and believe the Gospel.
Now as He walked by the sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen+.
Jesus said to them: Come after me and I will make you to become fishers~ of men.
Immediately+ they left+ their nets and followed Him.
When He had gone a little farther from there+, He saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother who also were in a boat mending their nets.
Immediately+ He called them and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed+ Him.
From there they went to Capernaum and immediately+ on the Sabbath day Jesus entered the synagogue and taught.
They were astonished at His doctrine for He taught them as one who had authority and not as the scribes.
In their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit and he cried out
saying: Let us alone. What do we have to do with you Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.
Jesus rebuked him saying: Be still+ and come out of him.
When the unclean spirit had shaken+ him and cried out with a loud voice, it came out of him.
They were all amazed so that they questioned among themselves saying: What is this? What new doctrine is this? For He commands with authority, even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.
Immediately His reputation+ spread widely+ throughout all the region around+ Galilee.
As soon as they came+ out of the synagogue, Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever and immediately+ they spoke to Him about her.
He came to her, took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her and she ministered to them.
Evening+ having come, when the Sun had set, they brought to Him all who were diseased and those who were demon+ possessed.
All the city was gathered together at the door.
He healed many who were sick with various+ diseases and cast out many demons+. But He did not allow+ the demons+ to speak because they knew Him.
In the morning, rising up a great while before day break, He went out and departed to a solitary place and prayed there.
Simon and the others who were with Him followed after Him.
When they found Him they said to Him: All the people are seeking you.
He said to them: Let us go to the next towns so that I can proclaim+ the Word there also, because it is for this purpose that I have come.
Then He proclaimed+ the Word in their synagogues throughout all Galilee and cast out demons+.
A leper came to Him beseeching Him, kneeling down to Him, and saying to Him: If you will you can make me clean.
Moved with compassion, Jesus put forth His hand and touched him and said to him: I will. Be clean.
As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was cleansed.
Jesus strictly+ warned+ him and immediately+ sent him away
saying to him: See that you say nothing to anyone. But go+ and show yourself to the priest and make an offering+ for your cleansing according to those things that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.
But he went out and began to tell+ many+ people and spread+ the matter widely+ so that Jesus could no longer+ enter the city openly, but was outside+ in deserted+ places. And yet the people still came to Him from everywhere+.
