Mark Chapter 2 1 After some days, Jesus entered Capernaum again and it was quickly reported+ that He was in the house.2 Immediately+ many gathered together so that there was no room to receive them all. No, not even+ near+ the door; and He proclaimed+ the Word to them.3 They came to Him bringing one sick with paralysis+ who was carried+ by four others.4 When they could not get near Him because of the crowd+, they uncovered the roof where He was. When they had broken it up, they let down the bed in which the one sick with paralysis+ lay.5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the one sick with paralysis+: Son, your sins are forgiven.6 But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts:7 Why does this man speak such blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God only?8 Immediately when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, He said to them: Why do you reason these things in your hearts?9 Which+ is easier to say to someone sick with paralysis+: Your sins are forgiven; or to say: Arise and take up your bed and walk.10 But so that you may know that the Son of man has authority+ and power on Earth to forgive sins, He said to the one sick with paralysis+:11 I say to you: Arise. Take up your bed and go+ to your house.12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all so that they were all amazed and glorified God saying: We never saw anything like this before.13 Then Jesus went to the seaside again and all the multitude came+ to Him and He taught them.14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office+ and said to him: Follow me. And he arose and followed Him.15 Now+ it came to pass, as Jesus sat down to eat+ in Levi's house, many worldly+ people and sinners sat with Jesus and His disciples, for there were many and they followed Him.16 When the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eat with worldly+ people and sinners, they said to His disciples: How is it that He eats and drinks with worldly+ people and sinners?17 When Jesus heard this, He said to them: Those who are whole have no need of a physician but those who are sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.18 Now the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast so they came and said to Him: Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast but your disciples do not fast?19 Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bride chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.20 But the days will come when the Bridegroom will be taken away from them and then they will fast in those days.21 No one sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment, or else the new piece that fills it up takes away from the old and the tear+ is made worse.22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins+, or else the new wine will burst the wineskins+ and the wine is spilled and the wineskins+ will be destroyed+. But new wine must be put into new wineskins+.23 Now+ it came to pass that Jesus went through the corn fields on the Sabbath day and His disciples began to pluck the ears of corn as they went.24 The Pharisees said to Him: Behold why do they, on the Sabbath day, do what is not lawful?25 Jesus said to them: Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those who were with him,26 how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest and ate the show bread that is not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat, and he also gave some to those who were with him.27 He said to them: The Sabbath was made for people+ and not people for the Sabbath.28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
