Mark Chapter 5 1 Then they came over to the other side of the sea to the country of the Gadarenes.2 When Jesus had come out of the boat, immediately coming out of the tombs, a man with an unclean spirit met Him.3 This man had his dwelling place among the tombs and no one could bind him. No, not with chains.4 He had often been bound with shackles+ and chains, and the chains had been pulled apart+ by him, and the shackles+ broken in pieces. No one could subdue+ him.5 Always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying and cutting himself with stones.6 But when he saw Jesus from a distance+, he ran and worshiped Him7 and cried out with a loud voice and said: What have I to do with you Jesus, Son of the most high God? I beg+ you by God that you not torment me.8 For Jesus said to him: Come out of the man you unclean spirit.9 Jesus asked him: What is your name? He answered saying: My name is Legion for we are many.10 And they begged+ Jesus greatly+ that He would not send them away out of the country.11 Now a large herd of swine was there on the mountain feeding.12 And all the demons+ begged+ Him saying: Send us into the swine so that we may enter into them.13 Immediately+ Jesus allowed+ them to go+ and the unclean spirits left+ and entered the swine, and the entire herd of about two thousand ran violently down a steep place into the sea and were choked in the sea.14 Those who fed the swine fled and told all about this in the city and in the country, and the people went out to see what it was that was done.15 And they came to Jesus and saw the one who had been demon+ possessed and had the legion, dressed+ and sitting still, in his right mind, and they were afraid.16 Those who saw it told what had happened+ to the one who had been demon+ possessed, and concerning the swine,17 and they began to beg+ Him to depart out of their borders+.18 When Jesus had come into the boat, the one who had been demon+ possessed begged+ Him that he might stay with Him.19 However Jesus did not allow him, but said to him: Go home to your friends~ and tell them how much+ the Lord has done for you, that He has had compassion on you.20 So he departed and began to tell+ everyone in Decapolis how much+ Jesus had done for him, and all the people marveled.21 When Jesus crossed+ over the sea again by boat to the other side, many people gathered to Him, and He was near the sea.22 And behold one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came to Him, and when he saw Him, he fell at His feet23 and begged+ Him greatly saying: My little daughter lies at the point of death. I beg+ you to come and lay your hands on her so that she may be healed, and she will live.24 Jesus went with him and many people followed Him and crowded+ in upon Him.25 Now a certain woman had an issue of blood twelve years26 and had suffered many things by many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.27 So, when she heard about Jesus, she came in the crowd+ and from behind touched His garment.28 For she said: If I may touch but His clothes, I will be whole.29 Immediately+ the flow+ of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.30 Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue had gone out of Him, turned around+ in the crowd+ and said: Who touched my clothes?31 His disciples said to Him: You see the multitude crowding+ in upon you and you say: Who touched me?32 And He looked around+ to see who had done this.33 But the woman, fearful and trembling knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before Him and told Him all the truth.34 He said to her: Daughter, your faith has made you whole. Go in peace and be healed+ of your plague.35 While He spoke, someone+ came from the house of the ruler of the synagogue who said: Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Master any further?36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue: Do not be afraid. Only believe.37 He allowed+ no one to follow Him except+ Peter, James, and John the brother of James.38 He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those who wept and wailed greatly.39 When He had come in, He said to them: Why do you make this fuss+ and weep? The girl+ is not dead, but sleeps.40 They laughed at Him scornfully, but when He had sent+ them all out, He took the father and the mother of the girl+ and those who were with Him and entered in where the girl+ was lying.41 He took the girl+ by the hand and said to her: Talitha cumi, which means+: Little girl+ I say to you: Arise.42 Immediately+ the girl+ arose and walked for she was twelve years old. They were astonished with great amazement+.43 Jesus charged them strictly+ that no one should know about this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.
