Mark Chapter 8 1 In those days, the multitude being very large+ and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples and said to them:2 I have compassion on the multitude because they have now been with me three days and have nothing to eat.3 If I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way, for many of them came from far away.4 His disciples answered Him: From where can anyone+ satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?5 He asked them: How many loaves do you have? They said: Seven.6 He directed+ the people to sit down on the ground. Then He took the seven loaves, gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them. And they sat them before the people.7 They also had a few small fish and He blessed and commanded to set them also before them.8 So they all ate and were filled. And of the broken pieces that were left, they took up seven baskets full9 Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then He sent them away.10 Immediately+ He entered a boat with His disciples and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.11 Then the Pharisees came and began to question Him, seeking a sign from heaven from Him, testing+ Him.12 He sighed deeply in His spirit and said: Why does this generation seek after a sign? Truly+ I say to you: No sign will be given to this generation.13 Then He left them and, entering the boat again, He departed to the other side.14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread and they did not have in the boat with them more than one loaf.15 Jesus charged them saying: Take heed. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.16 They reasoned among themselves saying: It is because we have no bread.17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Have you hardened your hearts, still+?18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?19 When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? They said to Him: Twelve.20 When I broke the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? They said: Seven.21 He said to them: How is it that you do not understand?22 Then Jesus came to Bethsaida and they brought a blind man to Him and begged+ Him to touch the man.23 So, He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. When He had spit on his eyes and put His hands upon him, He asked him if he saw anything+.24 The man looked up and said: I see people+ like trees walking.25 After that, Jesus put His hands upon his eyes again and made him look up, and he was restored and saw everyone+ clearly.26 Then Jesus sent him away to his house saying: Do not go into the town or tell anyone in the town.27 Then Jesus and His disciples went to the towns of Caesarea Philippi. Along+ the way, He asked His disciples saying to them: Who do people+ say that I am?28 They answered: John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. And others say one of the prophets.29 He said to them: But who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said to Him: You are the Christ.30 But He charged them that they should tell no one about Him.31 He began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.32 Jesus spoke the Word+ openly. But then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.33 But when He had turned around+ and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter saying: Get behind me Satan. For you do not savor the things that are of God but the things that are of men.34 Then when He had called the people together with His disciples, He said to them: Whoever will come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.35 For whoever would+ save their life will lose it, but whoever would+ lose their life for my sake and for the Gospel, the same will save it.36 For what will it profit anyone if they gain the whole world and lose their own soul?37 Or what shall anyone+ give in exchange for their soul?38 Whoever therefore is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man will be ashamed of them also when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
