Mark Chapter 12

Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: A certain man planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a place for the wine vat, built a tower, let it out to tenant farmers+, and went into a far country.
At the season he sent a servant to the tenant farmers+ so that he might receive from the farmers+ of the fruit of the vineyard.
But they caught him and beat him and sent him away empty handed.
Again he sent to them another servant but they cast stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated+.
Again he sent another, but they killed him and many others, beating some and killing some.
Therefore, having only+ one son, his beloved, at last he sent his only son to them, saying: Surely they will reverence my son.
But those tenant farmers+ said among themselves: This is the heir. Come. Let us kill him and the inheritance will be ours.
So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.
Therefore what will the lord~ of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenant farmers+ and will give the vineyard to others.
Have you not read this Scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. Matthew 21:42
This was the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.
So they sought to lay hold on Him, but they feared the people for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away+.
Then they sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to Him to catch Him in His words.
When they had come, they said to Him: Master, we know that you are true and do not have special care for any one person over another, for you do not regard the positions+ people+ hold, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?
Shall we give or shall we not give? But knowing their hypocrisy, Jesus said to them: Why do you test+ me? Bring a coin+ to me so that I may see it.
They brought it and He said to them: Whose is this image and title+? They said to Him: Caesar's.
So Jesus answering said to them: Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's. They marveled at Him.
Then the Sadducees who say there is no resurrection came to Him and they asked Him saying:
Master, Moses wrote to us: If a man's brother die and leave his wife and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up seed to his brother.
Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife and dying left no seed.
Then the second took her and died and he also left no seed. And the third likewise.
The seven had her and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.
Therefore in the resurrection when they rise, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as their wife.
Jesus answering said to them: Do you not therefore err because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like+ the angels in heaven.
And regarding the dead, that they rise: Have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him saying: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.
He is not the God of the dead but the God of the living. You therefore do greatly err.
Then one of the scribes came and, having heard them reasoning together and perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him: Which is the first commandment of all?
Jesus answered him: The first of all the commandments is this: Hear O Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord. Deuteronomy 6:4
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. Matthew 22:37
And the second is like this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Matthew 19:19
The scribe said to Him: Well said Master. You have spoken the truth. For there is one God and there is no other but He.
To love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the soul and with all the strength and to love neighbor as oneself+ is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
When Jesus saw that he answered with an understanding mind+, He said to him: You are not far from the kingdom of God. No one after that dared+ ask Him any question.
While He was teaching in the temple, Jesus answering said: How is it that the scribes say that Christ is the son of David?
For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.
Therefore David himself calls Him Lord. How+ then is He David's son? And the common people heard Him gladly.
Then He said to them in His doctrine: Beware of the scribes who love to go in long clothing and love salutations in the marketplaces,
the chief seats in the synagogues and the uppermost rooms at feasts,
who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive greater damnation.
Then Jesus sat near+ the treasury and saw+ how the people cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.
But then a certain poor widow came and threw in two mites, which were worth about a penny+.
Jesus called His disciples and said to them: Truly+ I say to you that this poor widow has cast more in than all those who have cast into the treasury.
For they all cast in out of their abundance, but she even out of her lack+ cast in everything+ that she had, even all her means of livelihood+.
