Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel fathered Abiud. Abiud fathered Eliakim. Eliakim fathered Azor. 14 Azor fathered Zadoc. Zadoc fathered Achim. Achim fathered Eliud. 15 Eliud fathered Eleazar. Eleazar fathered Matthan. Matthan fathered Jacob. 16 Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary from whom Jesus who is called Christ was born. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations. From David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations. From the carrying away into Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations. Isaiah 11:1 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ came about this way+. When His mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child by the Holy Spirit+. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a righteous+ man and not willing to make her a public example, was of a mind+ to put her away privately+. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying: Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife. For what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bring forth a son and you shall call His name Jesus~, for He will save His people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done to fulfill what was spoken of the Lord by the prophet who said: 23 Behold a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which means+: God with us. Isaiah 7:14 24 Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had directed+ him and took Mary to be his wife. 25 However, he did not know~ her as his wife until she had brought forth her firstborn son. And they called His name Jesus~.
