Matthew Chapter 13

The same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the seaside.
Great multitudes were gathered together to Him so that He went into a boat and sat, and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
He spoke many things to them in parables saying: Behold a sower went forth to sow.
When he sowed, some fell by the wayside and the birds+ came and devoured them up.
Some fell on stony places where they did not have much earth. Immediately+ they sprang up because they had no depth of earth,
and when the Sun was up, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away.
Some fell among thorns and the thorns sprang up and choked them.
But other seed fell into good ground and brought forth fruit: some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.
Who has ears to hear, let them hear.
Then the disciples came and said to Him: Why do you speak to them in parables?
He answered and said to them: Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not given.
For whoever has, to them will more be given and they will have more abundance. But whoever has nothing, from them will be taken away even what they have. Proverbs 9:9
Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Jeremiah 5:21
In them, the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: By hearing you will hear and not understand. Seeing you will see and not perceive. Isaiah 6:9
For the hearts of these people are calloused+. Their ears are dull of hearing and they have closed their eyes, lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their hearts and should be converted, and I should heal them. Isaiah 6:10
But blessed are your eyes for they see and your ears for they hear.
For truly+ I say to you that many prophets and righteous people have desired to see what you see but have not seen it and to hear what you hear but have not heard it.
Hear therefore the parable of the sower:
When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in their heart. This is the one who received seed by the wayside.
But the one who received the seed into stony places, the same is like those who hear the Word and immediately+ receive it with joy.
Yet they have no root in themselves and therefore they endure only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the Word, immediately+ they are offended and disbelieve
And the one who received seed among the thorns is like those who hear the Word but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word and they become unfruitful.
But the one who received seed into the good ground is like those who hear the Word and understand it and who also bear fruit and bring forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.
Then another parable He put forth to them saying: The Kingdom of Heaven is compared+ to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
But while people+ slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away+.
But when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit, then the tares appeared also.
So the servants of the property owner+ came and said to him: Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where then does it have tares?
He said to them: An enemy has done this. The servants said to him: Do you want+ us to go and gather them up?
But he said: No, lest while you gather up the tares you also root up the wheat with them.
Let both grow together until the harvest. In the time of harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather together first the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.
Another parable He put forth to them saying: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man sowed in his field.
Indeed it is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches. Psalm 104:12
Then He spoke another parable to them: The Kingdom of Heaven is like leaven that a woman hid in three measures of meal until the whole was permeated+.
All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables and without a parable He did not speak to them.
This fulfilled what the prophet had said: I will open my mouth in parables. I will utter things that have been kept secret~ from the foundation of the world. Psalm 78:2
Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and His disciples came to Him saying: Declare to us the parable of the tares of the field.
He answered and said to them: He who sows the good seed is the Son of man.
The field is the world and the good seed are the children of the kingdom. But the tares are the children of the wicked one.
The enemy that sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world and the reapers are the angels.
Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this world.
The Son of man will send forth His angels and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend and cause people to sin and all those who do iniquity Zephaniah 1:3
and cast them into a furnace of fire and there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine forth as the Sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who has ears to hear, let them hear. Daniel 12:3
Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hid in a field. When someone+ has found it, they hide it and with great joy go and sell all that they have and buy that field.
Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant seeking fine+ pearls.
When he found one pearl of great price, he sold all that he had and bought it.
Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind.
When it was full, they drew it to shore and sat down and gathered the good into vessels but cast the bad away.
So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels will come forth and sever the wicked from among the righteous+
and they will cast the wicked into the furnace of fire and there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus said to them: Have you understood all these things? They said to Him: Yes Lord.
Then He said to them: Therefore every scribe who is instructed about the Kingdom of Heaven is like a property owner+ who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.
And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these parables He departed from there+.
And when He had come into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue so that they were astonished and said: From where has this man acquired this wisdom and these mighty works?
Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary and His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Jude?
And His sisters, are they not all with us? From where then has this man acquired all these things?
They were offended by Him and disbelieved, but Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country and in his own house.
Therefore He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
