Matthew Chapter 14

At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard of the reputation+ of Jesus
and he said to his servants: This is John the Baptist. He is risen from the dead and therefore mighty works are shown at work by him.
For Herod had seized+ John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife whom Herod stole and married.
For John had said to him: It is not lawful for you to have her.
And when Herod would have put John to death, he did not because he feared the multitude because they counted John as a prophet.
But then when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.
Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.
And she, having been instructed by her mother, said: Give me here John the Baptist's head on a platter+.
The king was sorry, nevertheless because of his oath and those who sat with him to eat+, he commanded it to be given to her
and he sent and beheaded John in the prison
and John's head was brought on a platter+ and given to the girl+ and she gave+ it to her mother.
Then John's disciples came and took away the body and buried it and then went and told Jesus.
When Jesus heard about it, He departed from there+ by boat to a deserted+ place apart. When the people heard about this, they followed Him on foot out of the cities.
Jesus went forth and saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion toward them and He healed their sick.
When it was evening, His disciples came to Him saying: This is a deserted+ place and the time is now past. Send the multitude away so that they may go into the villages and buy food+ for themselves.
But Jesus said to them: They do not need to go away+. You give them food to eat.
They said to Him: We have here only+ five loaves and two fish.
He said: Bring them here to me.
Then He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass and He took the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them and gave the loaves to His disciples and the disciples to the multitude.
They all ate and were filled and of the fragments that remained they took up twelve baskets full.
Those who had eaten were about five thousand men plus+ women and children.
Immediately+ after that Jesus directed+ His disciples to get into a boat and go ahead+ of Him to the other side while He sent the multitudes away.
And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray and when the evening had come He was there alone.
But the boat was now in the midst of the sea and tossed with waves, for the wind was contrary.
Then in the fourth watch of the night sometime after three o'clock in the morning Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled and said: It is a spirit, and they cried out for fear.
But immediately+ Jesus spoke to them saying: Be of good cheer~. I Am+ with you. Do not be afraid.
Peter answered Him and said: Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water.
Jesus said: Come. And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous he was afraid and beginning to sink he cried out saying: Lord save me.
Immediately, Jesus stretched forth His hand, caught him, and said to him: O you of little faith. Why did you doubt?
When they entered+ the boat, the wind stopped+.
Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him saying: Truly, you are the Son of God.
When they had crossed+ over the sea, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
When the people+ of that place recognized+ Him, they sent word all around+ that country and brought to Him all who were diseased.
They begged+ Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment, and all+ who touched Him were made perfectly whole.
