Matthew Chapter 19 1 It came to pass that when Jesus had finished these sayings He departed from Galilee and came into the borders+ of Judea beyond Jordan.2 Great multitudes followed Him and He healed them there.3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing+ Him and saying to Him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?4 He answered and said to them: Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female Genesis 1:275 and said: For this reason+ a man shall leave father and mother and cleave to his wife and they two shall be one flesh. Genesis 2:246 Therefore they are no longer+ two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, mankind+ must not separate+.7 They said to Him: Why then did Moses command to give a written divorce+ and to put her away? Deuteronomy 24:18 He said to them: Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed+ you to put away your wives. But from the beginning it was not to be so.9 I say to you: Whoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication~, and shall marry another commits adultery~. And whoever marries one who is thus put away~ commits adultery. Matthew 5:3210 His disciples said to Him: If the case of the man be so with his wife it is not good to marry.11 But Jesus said to them: All people cannot receive this saying, but only+ those to whom it is given.12 For there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother's womb. There are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men. There are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. Those who are able to receive this, let them receive it.13 Then some little children there were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them.14 But Jesus said: Allow the little children and do not forbid them to come to me. For of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.15 He laid His hands on them; and then departed from there+.16 Behold one came and said to Him: Good Master what good thing shall I do so that I may have eternal life?17 Jesus said to him: Why do you call me good? There is none good but one who is God. But if you will enter into life, keep the commandments. Leviticus 18:518 The man said to Him: Which? Jesus said: You shall do no murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness. Exodus 20:13,14,15,1619 Honor your father and your mother. And, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Exodus 20:12 Leviticus 19:1820 The young man said to Him: All these things have I kept from my youth up. What do I yet lack?21 Jesus said to him: If you will be perfect~, go and sell your possessions+ and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me.22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful for he had great possessions.23 Then Jesus said to His disciples: Truly+ I say to you that a rich person+ shall hardly be able to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Proverbs 11:2824 Again I say to you: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person+ to enter into the kingdom of God.25 When His disciples heard this they were exceedingly amazed saying: Who then can be saved?26 But Jesus looked+ at them and said to them: With people+ this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Jeremiah 32:1727 Then Peter answered and said to Him: Behold we have forsaken all and followed you. What shall we have therefore?28 Jesus said to them: Truly+ I say to you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of His glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.29 Everyone who has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name's sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal+ life.30 But many who are first will be last and the last will be first.
