Nahum Chapter 1 1 The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.2 God is jealous. The Lord revenges and is a possessor of wrath. The Lord takes vengeance against His foes and keeps wrath against His enemies.3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power. He does not by any means acquit the guilty. The Lord has His way in the tempest and in the storm. The clouds are the dust of His feet.4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither and the flower of Lebanon withers.5 The mountains quake from Him and the hills melt. The earth is lifted up from before Him. Even the world and all who live in it.6 Who can stand before His fury? Who can stand up in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken down because of Him.7 The Lord is good. A stronghold in the day of trouble. He knows those who trust in Him.8 But with an overflowing flood, He will make an utter end of its place and darkness will pursue His enemies.9 What are you plotting against the Lord? He will make an utter end. Affliction will not rise up the second time.10 For as thorns are woven together and as drunkards are drunken, they will be devoured like stubble fully dry.11 One who imagines evil against the Lord has come out of you, a wicked counselor.12 Thus says the Lord: Though they be many and quiet, they will be cut down when He passes through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.13 Now I will break his yoke off of you and burst your bonds apart.14 The Lord has commanded concerning you that your name will no longer be continued+. I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods. I will make your grave for you are vile.15 Behold on the mountains the feet of him who brings good news, publishing peace. Judah, keep your solemn feasts. Fulfill+ your vows. For the wicked will no longer pass through you. He is completely cut off.
